Wayne Gaudet, MLA - gaudetw@gov.ns.ca

Wayne Gaudet, MLABorn in Concession, Wayne Gaudet graduated from Clare District High School in 1974. Having lived in Clare all his life, Wayne Gaudet understands what it means to live in rural Nova Scotia. At an early age he learned the importance of hard work and commitment realizing that anything you do is worth doing well.

Mr. Gaudet went on to obtain his Bachelor of Arts from l'Universite Sainte-Anne in 1977. He attended St. Mary's University in Halifax and graduated in 1978 with a Bachelor of Education. After completing his college education, Wayne Gaudet began teaching at Clare District High School. Mr. Gaudet has been a leader in his community starting with his career as an educator and administrator. Throughout his life, Wayne Gaudet has remained active in his home community of Clare.

Wayne Gaudet has served Nova Scotians in many distinguished positions since he was elected to the Nova Scotia Legislature as the MLA for Clare in 1993. Since then, he has served as Minister of Agriculture and Marketing, Minister of Human Resources, Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs, Minister of Education and Culture, Minister of Business and Consumer Affairs, Minister responsible for Acadian Affairs and Speaker of the House of Assembly.

On May 26, 2000 Wayne Gaudet was announced as interim leader of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party replacing outgoing leader Russell MacLellan, effective July 1st, 2000. On April 13, 2002 Danny Graham was elected Leader of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party replacing Mr. Gaudet as interim leader. On January 9, 2003, Mr. Gaudet was announced as interim leader to replace Danny Graham.

Wayne Gaudet was re-elected in 2006 and continues to hold his position as Deputy Speaker.
