MCNEIL ANNOUNCES NEW CRITIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Date: Monday June 29, 2009

(Halifax) Liberal Opposition Leader Stephen McNeil today announced a
new roster of critics that incorporates talented newcomers and sees
House veterans taking on new roles.

“The Liberal Opposition will be focused and constructive in our new
roles,” said Mr. McNeil. “We have an obligation to hold the
government to account, but we will also continue to offer the positive
solutions that Nova Scotians have come to expect from our team.”

The Liberal Leader retains the role of Critic to the Premier’s
Office, and adds Intergovernmental Affairs and Aboriginal Affairs to his
portfolio. Deputy Liberal Leader Diana Whalen (Halifax-Clayton Park)
takes on the Health and Health Promotion portfolios.

Manning MacDonald (Cape Breton South) remains Liberal House Leader.
Wayne Gaudet (Clare) will act as Deputy Speaker.

Other changes see Kings West MLA Leo Galvine assuming the position of
Finance Critic and Liberal Whip; and Dave Wilson (Glace Bay) becomes
Liberal Caucus Chair and adds Service Nova Scotia & Municipal Relations
to his list of responsibilities. Harold “Junior” Theriault
(Digby-Annapolis) retains his position as Fisheries Critic. Michel
Samson (Richmond) is responsible for Justice and gains the Immigration
file; and Keith Colwell (Preston) takes on Economic Development.

The newest members of Caucus, Kelly Regan (Bedford-Birch Cove) and Andrew Younger
(Dartmouth East), both take on sizable roles. Regan assumes the
Education portfolio and Younger, Energy and Environment.

“This is an experienced and capable team,” McNeil continued.
“Every member will have an equal role to play as we head into a
very important fall budget session, and as we work to strengthen our
party.”
