MCNEIL: SOUTHWESTERN NOVA SCOTIA HAS WAITED LONG ENOUGH
Date: Thursday January 28, 2010

(Halifax, NS) Liberal Leader Stephen McNeil says the people of Southwestern Nova Scotia have been waiting too long for answers from the NDP government on the future of the international ferry link.

"Following a meet with the Premier just days before Christmas, Premier Dexter promised a transportation study for the area be fast-tracked," said McNeil. "People are still waiting in Southwestern Nova Scotia and time is running out for solutions that can save the upcoming tourism season."

In December, the NDP government told Bay Ferries it would not provide a subsidy to the high speed ferry called "The Cat".

"The NDP government made that decision without consulting local business or local government official," said McNeil. "The government had not investigated other ferry options or consulted with the Federal Government. And it didn't wait for the transportation study."

"People of that area deserve better. The least the government can do is follow through on the Premier's promise to fast-track the study."
