ABOUT ANGUS L. MACDONALD
Angus Lewis Macdonald, often referred to as Angus L., was the 12 th premier of Nova Scotia, having
served for over 15 years in office. He began his journey as premier in 1933 as a renowned lawyer and
professor who attended Saint Francis Xavier University, Dalhousie University and Harvard Law School.
Before his time in office, he was an officer in the Canadian Expeditionary Force, an assistant deputy
attorney general in Nova Scotia, and a professor at Dalhousie Law School.
Upon leading Nova Scotia out of the Great Depression during his time as Minister of Defence for Naval
Services and through his work with the Royal Canadian Navy, Angus L. Macdonald became largely known
by Nova Scotians as an economist who strived to create a better environment for the people.
Macdonald used his education, knowledge and experience to create a better and more accessible
province for Nova Scotians and continues to be a inspiration to many, 68 years later.
