Liberal Bills Target Food Insecurity and Agricultural Supports
March 29, 2023 – (Halifax, NS)
Nova Scotia Liberals will table bills today to address food insecurity while supporting the agriculture industry in the province.

Education shadow minister Patricia Arab will table the Elimination of Youth Food Insecurity Act to implement a universal lunch program for children in grades P-9 to ensure Nova Scotian children have access to healthy food at school. Despite repeated calls from the Liberals to implement a universal lunch program, the Houston government failed to implement it in their second budget tabled last week.

Agriculture shadow minister Keith Irving will table the Food Recovery Act to create a provincial Food Recovery Program where local farmers would sell their products that are unable to be sold at market to non-profit organizations at a discounted rate. This program would help both the agriculture sector and Nova Scotians who dealing with rising grocery costs.
