Houston Continues to Hide Housing Strategy
July 31, 2023 – (Halifax, NS)
Housing is a top concern for many Nova Scotians, but with the long-overdue housing strategy still delayed, it appears it’s not a priority for the Houston government.

A provincial housing strategy was promised to be released by the Houston government in the spring, but Nova Scotians continue to wait heading into August. The urgency for a transparent and relevant housing strategy has become even greater after hundreds of Nova Scotians became displaced due to wildfires and flooding this summer.

Concerning comments about the province’s growing number of people experiencing homelessness from the Community Services minister have proven that the government is out of touch with the needs of Nova Scotians.
“Earlier this month, the Community Services minister said that the growing number of tents in HRM is a ‘natural evolution’ in the summer. These comments are deeply disappointing and bring the government’s compassion and competency into question,” said Opposition Leader Zach Churchill. “It’s time that the Houston government shows they’re serious about fixing the housing crisis in our province by releasing their promised housing strategy.”
